What is a Bounce? Follow
Bounces occur when email is rejected from that email service provider. There are two main types of bounces that we will discuss below, hard and soft. The more bounces you have the more it can damage your sender reputation.
Hard Bounce
These occur when there is a permanent reason that the address cannot be delivered to. If we receive a hard bounce on a leads email address, they will be unsubscribed to help with automatically cleaning your contact list. Some of the main reasons for a hard bounce are as follows:
- Domain doesn’t exist
- Email address doesn’t exist
- Email server has blocked delivery
Soft Bounce
A soft bounce is usually the result of a temporary delivery issue. These are not automatically unsubscribed by CINC. Currently, there is no way to see a soft bounce from within CINC. Soft bounces can occur for a multitude of reasons, but below are some of the most common:
- Message was too large
- Email inbox is full
- Email server is offline
How do I know if a lead bounced?
In the lead record, if you select ‘Email Activity’ it will show the unsubscribe reason. If you see the below, then it was unsubscribed because of a hard bounce. This automatically occurs on all hard bounces to assist in abiding with spam laws and keeping a clean list of contacts.
How to avoid bounces
- Clean Your List. Review what to do with Stale Mail.
- Safely Grow Contact List. Never buy a list. Never get leads from sources where they don’t clearly know who and what they’re signing up for.
